Villa Le Trident - Pointe de l'Esquillon - Théoule sur Mer

Villa Le Trident: A waterfront property, facing the Mediterranean Sea, for sale - by Côte d'Azur Sotheby's International Realty, real estate agency on the Côte d'Azur.

A true masterpiece of modernist architecture, the luxurious villa was built in 1925 by and for the architect Barry Dierks (1899-1960) on a private peninsula, and it made the reputation of the architect on the Riviera with a fashionable and cultured society.

This is how the Villa “Le Trident” welcomed big names in international culture, including Picasso, Somerset Maugham, Noël Coward and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

In 1925, the young architect and his companion Eric Sawyer, a banker and officer in the British army, chose to settle on the Côte d'Azur, following the growing demand for construction by wealthy Americans.

They then set their sights on Théoule-sur-Mer and an isolated plot of 6,000 m2, on a small peninsula at the tip of the Esquillon, with a cove and a private beach, enjoying a view from the bay of Cannes to Cap Roux, with - to the south - Corsica.

Follower of the Modern Movement, Dierks built this astonishing villa which would become his place of residence, his workshop and his showcase: the Trident would make the success of the couple and trigger a multitude of contracts for the architect and prestigious clients including Paul-Louis Weiller, the Marquis de Cholmondeley, the Prince of Monaco, Maxine Elliott or even General Catroux.

Following the death of Dierks in 1960, then Sawyer’s in 1985, the villa remained a family heritage until 2008.

The villa:

Of modern architecture, the residence with white plaster facades also showcases a superb roof terrace. Its location in a dominant position and its environment of red rocks typical of the Massif de l'Estérel gives it an exclusive location, right on the water, and a unique and magical panorama of the Mediterranean.

Built on 6119 m² of land, it features a swimming pool and direct access to a heavenly and inaccessible beach. Covering 300 m2, it offers 3 en-suite bedrooms upstairs including the master suite, a living room, lounge and kitchen on the ground floor, and on the garden level two bedrooms, a bathroom and a living room with kitchen. Spacious, light-flooded and elegant, its interior design and decor give the rooms a bright and serene atmosphere.

The property also offers a caretaker's house, and a two-car garage.
