A 16th-century historic château up for auction on the French Riviera
The Château de Tournon in Montauroux, just 35 kilometres northwest of Cannes, is about to go under the hammer with Côte d’Azur Sotheby’s International Realty. Dating back to the 16th century, this elegant Provençal estate offers 528 sq.m of living space across three levels, featuring 12 rooms including 6 en-suite bedrooms, set on nearly 6,000 sq.m of landscaped grounds.
Château de Tournon: auction sale
Owned by a young American entrepreneurial couple, the château is expected to sell for around €4 million. Their decision to opt for an auction sale reflects a distinctly Anglo-Saxon approach: a swift, transparent, and secure method, unlike the negative perception auctions often carry in France.
Acquired just two years ago, the property was intended to become their family residence, but a professional opportunity abroad prompted them to sell. While the structural and technical work (electricity, plumbing, etc.) has already been completed, the interior remains to be customised, with renovation costs estimated between €600,000 and €1 million.
The château also includes a natural wine cellar, a spa annex, a 30 sq.m swimming pool, expansive terraces, and a 74 sq.m double garage.
An exclusive preview visit was recently attended by European business leaders, and virtual viewings remain available upon request. The auction will run from October 31 to November 13, with the final result announced on November 14: the château will, quite simply, go to the highest bidder.
