Yachting season starts on the Cote d'Azur

If the Croisette and Saint Tropez live at the pace of holidaymakers during the summer, it is the sailors and sailing enthusiasts who animate the entry into the autumn season on the French Riviera.

Cote d'Azur Sotheby's International Realty will have the opportunity through its agencies in Cannes and Saint Tropez to vibrate to the rhythms of historical events that are Les Régates Royales de Cannes and Les Voiles de Saint Tropez.

Les Régates Royales de Cannes: from September 18 to 24, 2022

Cannes hosts for the forty-fourth time the Régates Royales with a fleet of fifty Dragon and an armada of more than eighty classic yachts, some of which are over one hundred years old. The regatta takes place over six days off the Lerins Islands and brings together a fleet divided into eight categories according to the size, age and rigging of the yachts. It is an exceptional gathering of the largest and most famous historic yachts of the past century such as the Cambria built in 1928, the Aschanti IV built in 1954, the two Moonbeam of Fife built in 1903 and Moonbeam IV built in 1914.

The city of Cannes is also lucky enough to host one of the oldest Yacht Clubs in France, which makes it one of the most prestigious cities to organize this exceptional regatta.

If the first edition started with races in the bay of La Napoule where small sailing or rowing boats competed, the Régates Royales de Cannes is now a real world championship of classic yachting where the most prestigious vessels meet in the bay of Cannes.

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez: from September 24 to October 8, 2022

The origin of the Voiles de Saint-Tropez goes back to a sailors' challenge between two boats, "Pride" and "Ikra", which, one day in September 1981, were playing a game between the Portalet tower (Saint-Tropez) and the "Club 55", a private beach in the mythical Bay of Pampelonne. This improvised game gave birth to the event that today makes the bay of Saint Tropez vibrate in the fall.

The principle is to bring together all classes of "Modern" and "Traditional" sailboats with experienced or inexperienced sailors but all in love with the event and Saint-Tropez.

The event is now called Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez  and has taken up the torch with the desire to keep the original friendly and good-natured spirit. During the first week, the city of Saint Tropez welcomes all classic boats, without size limit, and modern boats, up to 18m28. During the second week, the large modern boats and the multihulls of the Performance Cruising Multihulls class benefit from specific courses with all departures in front of the city of Saint-Tropez. About 250 boats participate in the first week and nearly 50 modern "Maxi Yachts" are expected in the second week. The old port becomes the ideal place to admire and immortalize this unique show with the inimitable panorama of the Bay of Saint Tropez.
