Le Café de l'Ormeau in Ramatuelle

A historic venue at the heart of Ramatuelle

In the heart of the picturesque village of Ramatuelle, a new chapter has begun for one of its most iconic institutions: Le Café de l'Ormeau. Long considered the beating heart of the village, this beloved brasserie has undergone a stunning transformation—enhancing its charm while preserving the soul and traditions that made it legendary.

More than just a restaurant, Le Café de l'Ormeau is a local monument. Over the decades, it has welcomed a host of celebrated guests, from Brigitte Bardot and Johnny Hallyday to Jacques Chirac and Georges Pompidou. The café has always embodied a unique spirit—warm, elegant, and authentically Provençal. This singular atmosphere continues to enchant locals and visitors alike, whether loyal patrons or curious epicureans in search of something special.

A new era led by Indie Group

For over 80 years, the Lindemann family lovingly maintained the Café’s identity, preserving its authenticity and conviviality through generations. Their stewardship anchored the café as a pillar of village life. Today, a fresh breeze blows through the establishment, thanks to Vincent Luftman, Raphaël Blanc, and Tobias Chaix—the trio behind the Indie Group.

Renowned for their stylish, festive venues such as Pablo on Place des Lices in Saint-Tropez and Indie Beach on Pampelonne, Indie Group brings a new creative energy while respecting the venue’s roots and spirit.

Authentic Provençal cuisine

The menu at Le Café de l'Ormeau continues to honor traditional Provençal gastronomy. Flavorful, generous dishes rooted in local heritage are now complemented by subtle modern twists, appealing to a wide and discerning clientele. It’s heartfelt cuisine, served in a setting that is both refined and inviting.

A fresh, elegant design

For the redesign, Indie Group commissioned architect David Granata, who crafted a warm, understated interior with soft green tones that evoke nature and serenity. The result is a thoughtful balance of village charm and contemporary style—an experience that feels faithful to the café’s essence, yet distinctly forward-looking.

A revitalized Place de l’Ormeau: the village transforms

Le Café de l'Ormeau is more than a dining destination—it’s a vital part of Ramatuelle’s living heritage. Its revival coincides with a broader transformation of the village center. An ambitious urban renewal project is underway to restore Place de l’Ormeau as a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly, and serene gathering space.

The plan includes shaded areas for leisurely strolls, enhanced comfort and accessibility, and a total of fifteen new trees—six on Place de l’Ormeau itself. Public amenities such as benches, pétanque courts, restrooms, and an elevator for people with reduced mobility will further enhance the space.

Once the renovations are completed—scheduled for April 27—the weekly village market will return to the square, reaffirming its role as a social and cultural hub.

A personal story for Fabien Tremblay

This transformation holds personal significance for Fabien Tremblay, director of the Saint-Tropez office of Côte d’Azur Sotheby’s International Realty. A few years ago, he oversaw the sale of this storied address, transferring it from the Lindemann family to the Indie Group.

Today, Fabien continues this legacy: he is finalizing the sale of the 100 sqm apartment directly above the café. Formerly owned by the same family, it is now poised to become part of the café’s new chapter—marking a symbolic and seamless continuity that speaks to the living memory of Ramatuelle.

An enduring institution, alive and well

Perfectly located on Place de l’Ormeau, this emblematic café is embracing a new era without losing its identity. Once a favorite haunt of political and artistic icons, Le Café de l'Ormeau still pulses at the heart of Ramatuelle, drawing in discreet celebrities and lovers of authenticity alike.

Thanks to Indie Group’s thoughtful reinvention—and within a village in full renaissance—Le Café de l'Ormeau is a perfect harmony of tradition, modernity, and local spirit. A place to (re)discover, for those wishing to experience the true soul of Ramatuelle.
