La Rivolte: a fairy tale in the heart of Grasse

Imagine a dwelling that has traversed eras, a silent witness to the history of the Côte d'Azur. Perched on the heights of Malbosc in Grasse, Villa La Rivolte is far more than a simple property – it is a true architectural novel.

Its story begins at the end of the 19th century, during an era when Grasse was transforming into a coveted winter destination for European elites. In 1882, Gustave Rouquier, a visionary local jeweler, decided to metamorphose this old country house into an architectural gem. Its ochre-yellow facade already tells a story: a bold mixture of classical and neo-baroque styles, typical of the eclectic architecture of the time.

The details are striking: colossal pilasters, triangular pediments, elegant loggia – each element is an ode to beauty. The villa was even christened “Montfleuri” in homage to Grasse, the world capital of perfume, and richly decorated with floral motifs celebrating the rose.

But the most romantic story? That of Ivan Bounine, Russian Nobel Prize-winning author. Chased away by the Bolshevik revolution, he found refuge in this villa, drawn by a climate that reminded him of his beloved Crimea. One can almost imagine him writing his memoirs on the terrace, lulled by the garden's fragrances.

And what a garden! A veritable exotic lung spanning 337 m², where palm trees, yuccas, giant bamboos, and century-old olive trees coexist. A verdant setting that has traversed more than a century without losing its splendor.

Today, La Rivolte awaits only a new owner to continue its story. Eight bedrooms, two living rooms, a large kitchen, and a guest pavilion: all the ingredients are assembled to write the next chapter of this extraordinary residence.

A property that is not just a house, but a true living novel in the heart of Provence.
