Joan MIRÓ - Beyond the Painting - June 29 to November 17, 2019
A sweetness of life.

Born in Barcelona on April 20, 1893 Joan Miró was a painter, sculptor, engraver and ceramist well known for his surrealist works.
Major actor of the creation of the Maeght Foundation alongside Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, he was responsable for the recommendation of Josep Lluis Sert, the architect who designed the plans of the famous foundation of Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
Miró himself often stayed in Saint-Paul-de-Vence to work in Aimé Maeght's printing workshops.

Inaugurated on July 28, 1964 by André Malraux a renowned author of the time, the Foundation now hosts exhibitions gathering the great names of modern and contemporary art in all its forms, within its unique architectural ensemble.

From June 29 to September 17, 2019 the Maeght Foundation celebrates Joan Miró with the exhibition of some of his most famous works. The connexion with poets, the concept of collage, combinatorial possibilities and the discovery of new techniques are the watchwords of the exhibition.

This exhibition pays tribute to an artist who was passionate about his art while exposing his methods of work.

It focuses on the printed work of Miró (mainly lithographs and etchings) for which the Maeght family is very involved as publisher and gallery owner.
